Fellow Democrats:
Heading into next week's primary, Scott Walker is going to barnstorm the state pushing his sham brown bag campaign.
But we know that Walker’s phony brown bag is full of baloney.
Walker’s claim that he will cut spending is baloney – Under Scott Walker, spending in Milwaukee County increased by $349 million, or 35 percent. That’s more than Tom Barrett OR Jim Doyle.
Walker’s big talk that he will reduce taxes is baloney – Scott Walker has proposed 18 percent increases in the property tax levy during his time as County Executive – or $39 million more in tax increases.
Walker’s laughable assertion that he is fiscally responsible is baloney – Scott Walker saddled future generations with $400 million in debt when he recklessly borrowed money to solve the County’s pension fund deficit.
Walker’s baseless claim that he can get the job done is baloney – Scott Walker will say or do anything to try to get elected. He flip flopped on immigration in less than 24 hours, reversed his position on the smoking ban within days, and continues to contradict himself on health care, stimulus, concealed carry and many more issues.
And baloney is all Wisconsin’s working and middle class families will be able to afford after Walker gives his enormous $1.8 billion tax giveaway to the wealthiest 1% and big corporate elite.
$681,203.78 : That's the amount that Scott Walker has paid SCM Associates Incorporated. SCM Associates Incorporated is a conniving East Coast political consulting firm that is literally recycling this phony brown bag tour that Walker has bizarrely made the centerpiece of his campaign. As you know it was first used in 1998 for an Ohio Republican running for the Senate and Walker is even using some of the material verbatim.
By clicking here or here, you'll find an artist's portrayal of Scott Walker as he tries to sell Wisconsin a phony baloney brown bag movement. Also, please check out our "Scott Walker's Brown Bag is Full of Baloney" flyer. Feel free to share it with your family and your friends.
And make sure you tell Walker if he comes to your town that it's going to take more than his baloney to get Wisconsin working again.
Sincerely,

Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair
"Growing up on a dairy farm, my father taught me not to take any bull and how to milk a dollar for all it's worth, two skills they could use today in Washington," she says as a cow moos nearby.
Government Accountability
Julie has been a champion for making government more accountable and transparent for Wisconsin taxpayers. She advocated for fiscal reform in government by creating the Fraud, Waste and Mismanagement Hotline to identify and eliminate wasteful spending. She authored legislation to require greater transparency and accountability in government through regular performance and management audits of government agencies to ensure that taxpayer dollars aren’t being wasted, and pushed to reform the state’s contracting practices with her Truth in State Contracting Act to make sure taxpayers are getting the best bang for their buck. She also wrote a proposal to close the revolving door between former government officials and special interests so citizens can have more confidence that government officials are looking out for the people’s interests instead of their own.
In the U.S. Congress, Julie will bring this common-sense approach to Washington to ensure that taxpayers can count on efficient, effective government that uses their tax dollars wisely
Agriculture
Julie knows first-hand the importance of hard work and the value of agriculture to our nation. She has been a tireless advocate for Wisconsin farmers and has been endorsed by the Wisconsin Farm Bureau in her previous elections.
Growing up on a small dairy farm herself, Julie is uniquely familiar with the challenges facing family farms, from the low prices dairy farmers are receiving for milk to the difficulty in getting credit from lenders to help family farms to expand. In Wisconsin, Julie authored programs like Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin and Farm to School that build new markets for agriculture and help family farms prosper while also giving consumers access to fresh and nutritious agricultural products. In Congress, Julie will make helping family farms thrive and grow a top priority.
Jobs and Economic Growth
Julie Lassa knows firsthand the stress that families in Wisconsin are feeling. As a young girl, Julie grew up on her family’s small farm and, during some winters, watched as her father was laid off from a factory job he worked to support the family. As the next representative from the Seventh District, Julie will work hard across party lines for policies that promote the creation of good-paying, family-supporting jobs in Central and Northern Wisconsin.
In both the public and private sector, Julie has been a leader in building a positive business environment in Wisconsin to promote job creation and economic growth. She wrote the CORE Jobs Act, a comprehensive job creation package that was signed into law which contains eighteen provisions to help put Wisconsin back on the road to economic recovery. CORE gives entrepreneurs new tools to build small businesses, helps existing businesses thrive and grow and provides additional resources for worker training. Julie has also worked across party lines to find positive solutions and pool resources to create jobs. Julie will bring this same bi-partisan, results-oriented approach to the U.S. Congress.
CAFTA that are sending our jobs abroad are reformed.
Reducing Our National Debt
Growing up on a small dairy farm, Julie learned about hard work and the value of a dollar. She understands that our government must stay within its means, just like Wisconsin families do every day. Julie believes our national debt has skyrocketed to unsustainable levels and threatens international relations with countries like China, which is now America’s biggest creditor.
To control and reduce the national debt, Julie believes we must take action to reign in spending and vastly improve our government’s accountability and transparency. Julie believes we should reform our contracting procedures to root out waste and duplicative spending in government, just as she did in Wisconsin. She will also work to ensure that audits are conducted of government programs and that unproductive programs are changed or eliminated. Julie also believes we must close the special interest loopholes that allow big businesses to avoid paying their fair share, while reducing the burden on Wisconsin individuals, families and small businesses.
Julie believes we need to hold corporations that get government contracts to high standards for quality and cost-effectiveness -- and hold them accountable if they fail to meet those standards.
Seniors
Julie Lassa believes that our seniors deserve the benefits they have been promised through Social Security and Medicare. In Congress, she will work to ensure that Social Security benefits remain in place for our seniors and future generations of Americans. Knowing that many individuals rely on Social Security for their retirement, she will fight against risky privatization schemes that put our seniors’ social security benefits at the mercy of Wall Street greed.
Julie will also fight to make sure that Medicare remains a steadfast benefit for our seniors. She will work to allow Medicare to negotiate lower prices for prescription drugs to lower the cost of life-saving medicines for seniors and save taxpayers money by leveraging Medicare’s large purchasing power.
CQ Politics
State Sen. Sean Duffy(R) to replace retiring Rep. David Obey (D).
"Growing up on a dairy farm, my father taught me not to take any bull and how to milk a dollar for all it's worth, two skills they could use today in Washington," she says as a cow moos nearby.
Lassa goes on to say she wants Members' pay cut until unemployment drops and raises eliminated until the budget is balanced. The ad builds upon a theme in the Lassa campaign. She released a plan to clean up Washington last week. Campaign manager Rick Fromberg said that the effort is a response to what she hears from voters.
"I think it's important that what we talk about is what Julie hears every day out on the campaign trail," he said on a press call Thursday morning. "This is an ad that's rooted in her values and what she wants to do. She is running her own campaign, and she's going to talk about what's important to her and what's important to the voters of the seventh district."
Lassa won a special election to the state Senate in 2003 after serving in the state Assembly.
She entered the Congressional race in May after Obey announced he would step down and had raised $313,000 by the end of June. She's among the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's Red to Blue candidates, and this district is among the districts where the DCCC has reserved TV time.
On the other side, Duffy joined the race before Obey dropped out. Best known nationally as an alum of the "Real World" TV show, Duffy served as special prosecutor and then district attorney in Ashland County. He was named to the top tier of the National Republican Congressional Committee's Young Guns program and had raised $971,000 by the end of June.
Lassa and Duffy are expected to win their primaries, which will be held Sept. 14.
