Sanders for Lieutenant Govenor of Wisconsin on Marriage Equality - GO SANDERS!

The fight for marriage equality took a major step forward yesterday, as more than 500 advocates marched to the capitol to showWisconsin supports equal rights for all its citizens – regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, or orientation.

This issue is a simple question of whether or not our state is inclusive and values equality and fairness for all couples, and we were proud to join them in the cause.

Following the march, we received dozens of emails and phone calls thanking us for standing up for fairness and equality in
Wisconsin. But one really stood out – an email from Marge, who wrote to us after seeing some of the coverage on the news.
“I'm a straight woman, and my recently deceased mother was a lesbian.  I wonder how her life would have been different if she didn't have to stay in the closet at work.  I wonder how her life would have been different if she had been able to marry her long-time partner.  I wonder how my life would have been different if I didn't have to constantly monitor what I said at school about my family. So... thank you.”
In an email back later that day, Marge told us that her sign at rallies always reads “Standing on the side of love.”

Join me in standing with Marge today – sign the statewide petition for marriage equality.

It’s stories like these that show the real impact elections – and the policies that result – have on families across our state. The actions we take, or don't take, today will affect thousands of families just like Marge's. Far too often, that’s something career politicians lose sight of.

People like Marge are the reason I’ve been on the front lines of the fight for marriage equality.
This issue isn’t just about basic fairness – it will have an immediate impact on our economy, as well as long-term benefits in attracting and retaining a talented workforce and the jobs that come with it. It's long past time we took action.

Stand with Marge in signing the statewide petition.
We’ll deliver the signatures to key elected leaders around the state, letting them know that
Wisconsin voters believe in equal rights for all our citizens.

Together, we can make a real difference for families like Marge’s – and take another step toward economic recovery in the process.

Let’s get to work!
